PERCY JACKSON 2 Movie Casting & Directing Updates!

More additions have been added to the cast for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, the second movie-from-a-book in the Percy Jackson franchise.

The newest addition is a change-up in casting. Pierce Brosnan is being replaced by Anthony Head to play Percy’s teacher Chiron. Head is best known as his role as Giles in the wildly popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series, which ran from 1997-2003. Fans of the old show and these books, what are your thoughts on this new casting?

Other news is that Nathon Fillian is being cast as the god Hermes. I am so excited by this, as I adore him (Firefly and Dr.Horrible, anyone?), and Hermes is one of my favorite side characters in the books.

There’s been a director change-up as well: Chris Columbus has been replaced by Thor Freudenthal to direct the sequel. The first two movies that popped up under his name was Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Hotel for Dogs, so he has experience with movies for kids. Hopefully it doesn’t feel too young though, as the books cater to both young and old. Let’s also hope Thor is up to staying true to the awesomeness that is Rick Riordan’s series and honors it well in this second film.

Good news for those who like consistency in their sequels though, because even though Pierce is gone, Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson and Jake Abel are returning as Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Luke, respectively. I hated Alexandra as Annabeth, but the others were great, so hopefully this won’t be a complete let-down.

The Sea of Monsters is currently set to release in 2013.
